This particularly original and ambitious project is located in Seine-et-Marne, where the client acquired a former presbytery with an adjoining chapel to be transformed into a multi-purpose cultural venue.

The former chapel will become the central space of this place with multiple uses. I was commissioned to design the layout and interior concept for this large volume, where the altar used to stand. The brief was to enhance the architectural scale of the space, acknowledge its former religious use while adapting it to new functions. The design needed to be primarily decorative, while also incorporating storage solutions and accommodating evolving uses depending on the day: meeting space, conference room, reception venue.

The proposed design introduces three large niches with rounded shapes that echo the restored stained-glass windows. Within these niches, zellige-inspired ceramic tiles will reflect the light and subtly reference the colours of the stained glass. The central niche, taller and more monumental, recalls the position of the former altar.

A carefully considered lighting strategy will enhance the volumes both during the day and at night, allowing the space to become a striking backdrop for conferences and receptions.
