Full renovation of a central London apartment, including layout optimisation to create an additional bedroom and bathroom, complete refurbishment and bespoke joinery

This period apartment, located in the heart of the prestigious South Kensington neighbourhood in London, required a complete rethinking of its layout. The clients’ goal was to create an additional bedroom and to integrate an en-suite bathroom into the master bedroom.

The project became a true architectural puzzle. The former kitchen was converted into a bedroom, while the new kitchen was relocated to the former bathroom. By opening up a load-bearing wall, the kitchen now connects directly to the living area, enhancing both flow and conviviality.

A compact shower room was created within a former circulation space, and the main bedroom was reconfigured to accommodate an en-suite bathroom as well as a small walk-in wardrobe.

Attention to detail throughout the apartment ensures the original architectural character is preserved while meeting contemporary lifestyle needs. Bespoke furniture was designed for every room — including wardrobes, storage units, desks, shelving, radiator covers and built-in benches.

The kitchen, entirely designed by our studio using Ikea carcasses customised by a joiner, perfectly illustrates this pragmatic and tailor-made approach.
